DescriptionThe 21st century learning environment is comprised of a variety of learning spaces and a diversity of learners. This environment is complex because of the range of diverse modalities of instruction, student backgrounds, and unforeseeable challenges capable of fundamentally altering this landscape at any moment. To best serve our learners, it is important for us to know who we serve, and it is noteworthy to acknowledge that first-generation college learners, faculty, and staff add to the diversity of population and experience within the higher education context. Thus, this volume endeavors to make ‘first things first’ by giving voice to a cadre of individuals with first-generation college experiences in higher education.
